Joshua 4
So Joshua called together the twelve men he had appointed
from the Israelites,
one from each tribe,
and said to them,
“Go over
before the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of the Jordan.
Each of
you is to take up a stone on his shoulder,
accofding to the number of the
tribes of the Israelites,
to serve as a SIGN among you.

In the future
when your children ask you,
‘What do these stones mean?’

tell them
that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the
LORD.
When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut
off.
These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel
forever.”

…..

v.22- “tell them, ‘Israel crossed the Jordan on
dry ground.
For the Lord dried up the Jordan

BEFORE YOU,
UNTIL YOU
CROSSED OVER.”
……

“He did this so that all the peoples of the
earth might know
that the Hand of the LORD is powerful
and so that you
might ALWAYS
fear the
LORD YOUR GOD.”

I’m reminded today that it is my job to recount to my children the miracle of GOD before me.
That He didn’t just save the children of Israel, but that He has led and rescued us.
The movement of God on my behalf is done so that He might be shown powerful and that I might fear Him.

There is a large rock in our front yard that we lovingly call our stone of rememberance. We placed it in front of our house and it is there to remind us that God moved on our behalf when we came back to Michigan. He provided a job during a time of great levels of unemployment, he provided a rental house within our means when there had been none for months. And He did these things in such an intimate way, answering the smallest of prayers and meeting the largest of needs that I might ascribe glory to HIM.

I think the Lord understood the children would need reminding, and by that I mean the adult children of Israel.
